Marketo Turns to Cloud Printing to Meet Deadlines and Reduce Costs

Overview

Marketo, the fastest growing provider of on-demand marketing automation solutions, uses the Internet to deliver its industry leading software. The company’s marketing department also utilizes the Internet as its primary means of communicating with customers and prospects.  But, several times a year, Marketo must create premium -quality printed materials to use as handouts when meeting face-to-face with customers at conferences and trade shows.

For a recent users’ conference, Marketo created an innovative handout designed to make an impression on attendees; a piece attendees could take home and use as a reference tool.  But, as they gathered print quotes, Marketo found printing costs were higher than expected and local vendors couldn’t meet their deadline.  Marketo turned to the Internet for a solution and discovered HubCast’s Cloud Print Service.  HubCast provided the pricing and turnaround Marketo needed in an easy-to-use Internet application.

Company Background

Based in San Mateo,California, Marketo provides marketing automation solutions that re-define the way marketing and sales teams collaborate. The company’s software enables organizations to focus on generating demand, managing sales leads, and analyzing marketing programs to increase revenue and improve marketing accountability. Founded in 2006, Marketo boasts more than 375 customers in B2B industries, such as high technology, financial services, healthcare, communications and professional services.  With the help of Marketo solutions, these customers are shortening revenue cycles, demonstrating marketing ROI, and rapidly increasing revenues.

Challenge

As they prepared for a key users’ conference, Marketo’s marketing department created a 40-page best practices handout, The Definitive Guide to Lead Management, to showcase the company’s expertise and core value.  “We wanted printed content customers would keep and use to enhance their marketing and sales programs,” states Kelly Abner, director of marketing for Marketo.

The marketing department finished the piece a few days before the conference only to find their printer couldn’t print and deliver 700 copies in time. “We created this amazing marketing piece but it didn’t look like we would have it in time for the event,” says Abner.

The company’s small marketing department couldn’t devote additional staff time to researching and negotiating with multiple printers. “Marketo is growing exponentially, and our marketing and sales teams are executing quickly. Our staff time is always in short supply,” explains Abner.

Solution

“HubCast was the perfect solution.  We got the fast turnaround and pricing we needed for our conference, and their online service freed-up our staff to work on other tasks,” continues Abner. As Marketo put the finishing touches on the book, HubCast’s customer support team worked with Abner to ensure the files were ready and to make the printing process more efficient. “This was a major project for us and we didn’t have time for any problems or issues,” explains Abner. “HubCast worked with us throughout the process to make sure the .pdf was press-ready and, as a result, everything went smoothly.”

“HubCast’s online Web application was amazingly easy-to-use,” says Abner. “I uploaded the file, input my delivery date, the number of copies, and HubCast did the rest. HubCast took the pressure off our department to find and manage a printer and allowed us to focus on preparing for the conference.”

HubCast’s Cloud Print Service provides a global network of locally-based, high-quality printers around the world, enabling Marketo to meet their schedule without compromising quality. “The project met all of our requirements for delivery and quality, and the pricing was dramatically different, about 25 to 30 percent less than other vendors.”

“The quality of the finished book was excellent,” states Abner.  “HubCast delivered all 700 books right on time.  We couldn’t get that service or turnaround with any other printer.” The book was so well received the company printed a second run of 700 copies for trade shows.  “The color matching was perfect in the second print run. Because of the time HubCast spent with us up-front preparing our .pdf as well as the quality of printers in their network, I was confident that every additional book in the second print run would match the quality of the first 700.”

"HubCast was great,” concludes Abner.  “I got everything I wanted; the price fit my budget, the book was delivered on time, and the quality was great.  Plus, it was really easy to get things done.”
